Sanjay, an operating advisor at Broadscale Group, has over 15 years of experience in venture capital, entrepreneurship, and public policy focused on clean energy and resource productivity.
Previously, Sanjay served as SVP of Corporate Development at Soligent, the largest solar distributor in the US, with approximately $170M in annual revenues. Sanjay was responsible for financing, M&A, and new business initiatives at Soligent, including the company’s merger with SunWize, the US’s second largest solar distributor, and the subsequent integration of the two companies’ operations.
Previously, Sanjay served as Senior Advisor for Corporate Development at Solazyme (Nasdaq: SZYM) and as President of AliphaJet, two leading companies in biofuels and biochemicals.
Until 2011, Sanjay served in the Obama Administration at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). At DOE, Sanjay served in the Office of Energy Secretary Steven Chu helping to oversee implementation of $11 billion in Recovery Act programs for clean energy. Sanjay also served as Associate Director for Commercialization at the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E), where he built and ran a program to commercialize high-risk, high-reward energy technologies funded by the agency.
Before DOE, Sanjay worked in venture capital for eight years, including helping to found Expansion Capital Partners, a venture capital firm managing $80 million for investments in clean energy and resources, and then serving as a Principal and founding member of the CleanTech Group of VantagePoint Capital Partners, which invested over $1 billion in companies involved in solar, electric vehicles, smart grid, biofuels, and green buildings, among other areas. Sanjay also served as an Investment Officer at the International Finance Corporation, the private sector arm of the World Bank, where he led the financing of private sector power, transport, and water projects in emerging markets. Sanjay holds a BA from Harvard University and an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.
