Alison L. Smith

Formerly a principal at Broadscale, Alison played a key role in the launch of the firm, and continues to stay engaged with the team as an operating advisor. Alison has more than 14 years’ experience advising both Fortune 500 companies and startups on clean energy innovation, go-to-market strategy, and business development.

Prior to Broadscale Group, Alison led business development for GreenOrder, a pioneer in the field of growth-oriented environmental strategy. Alison worked with C-suite leaders in the automotive, CPG, energy, finance, real estate, and technology industries to quantify and pursue their companies’ most promising opportunities for innovation. She previously served as an associate at GreenOrder, managing several of the largest strategy engagements in the firm’s history.

Before joining GreenOrder, Alison worked at Jonathan Rose Companies, the award-winning green real estate planning, development, and investment firm. As a member of the Owner’s Representative Studio, Alison supported the execution of multi-million dollar capital projects from the feasibility phase through final budgeting, design, and construction.

Alison began her career in innovation at the creative agency The Moderns, where she worked as part of a cross-disciplinary team to develop products and brands for startups as well as large corporations. The Moderns designed the William McDonough and Michael Braungart book “Cradle to Cradle” and were among the earliest practitioners of eco-effective product design.

Alison received a B.A. in History, with distinction, from Yale University. She has also completed independent coursework in economics at Keble College (University of Oxford) and New York University.
